I was then stuck in White Clay for a day. McCool Junction was like The trip wasn t without Hazard though. Had the Dickens scared out of me by an Archer with a Broken Bow, chased up an old Oak tree by a Bassett hound, suffered an allergic reaction to Angora wool, kicked by a Holstein, fell from a Butte, stung by a Bee, had to wade through Broadwater, pooped on by an Eagle, pricked by a Rose, stepped on by an Angus, attacked by a Gibbon, experienced the Pierce of an Elkhorn.

Took a bad tumble in Falls City, but was back on my feet at Rising City. The people in Laurel and Hardy really made me laugh, but those in Crab Orchard were a bit grumpy. Folks in Homer were a big hit. At times I was treated like a Champion and shown the Royal treatment. Received a nice greeting in Valentine, but the town I was most attracted to had to be Magnet. I always had plenty of food and drink along the way. Everything from Concord grapes to Bartlett pears, black Angus steaks to Hershey bars.

Never had to Cook and never had to open a can of Worms. The Nebraska nights were awesome. Auburn sunsets and Sterling moons. From the Flats in the east, where the Aurora borealis unfolds into Plainview, to the Western hills where you can see the Sparks coming out of Chimney Rock.

2000 NAOC Show in Boone, IA

The entire Nebraska adventure was like a Page out of history. After passing through Colon, I realized my trip had just come to You re Out of Here For Life! He was a nice looking fellow, quiet, well-mannered, and a shoe salesman for Baker Shoes in downtown Lincoln. That is when we had a downtown Lincoln. He was a member in good standing of the Roadrunners Auto Club and one of the many go-for-broke hotrodders that existed on the street scene in Lincoln in the late s and early s.

We called him The Leaner because of his rather unusual way of sitting behind the wheel with his left shoulder kind of wrapped around the left side of the steering wheel. His car was a 56 Chevy convertible, off color red more of a burgundy with a white top. His mill was a engine, horsepower, dual fours, and a four-speed. It had the word Raunchy pinstriped on the left fender.

When Larry was in Raunchy and they were playing his tune on the radio which was Mule Skinner Bluesyou were in for the ride of your life. Larry burned rubber halfway around the front row of Ken Eddy s, and an off duty policeman working Ken Eddy s we called them Rent-a-Cops came running out Officer Sparks we were sure he ate nails for breakfast and was at least a quart low on the milk of human kindness and hollered at us.

You re out of here! Then he added, For life! Larry responded by burning rubber the rest of the way around Ken Eddy s and out the 7 exit. There was a cool drive-in in Omaha called Tyners; it was visited by a lot of hotrodders. Sometimes things got boring in Lincoln so we went to Omaha to do the drive-in scene there. We were coming back from Omaha late one night, and Larry went through highway patrol radar much too fast.

Larry punched her out, got out of sight of the HP, and took a side road on the gravel. He went down the gravel very slow so as not to raise dust and into a cornfield.
