That implacable lover who was going to turn Billy’s eyes away from me forever. I think I was amazed at Patricia Nell Warren’s writing more than anything else with this novel. Set in the year leading up to the Montreal Olympics, we follow the life of an ex-marine Coach who begins very much in the closet, and who falls in love with a gay runner left in his charge. Now, they actually publish gay novels that are good, instead of schmaltzy claptrap like this.
