But I really didn’t like him being a vampire. She’s moody and dark, your atypical gothic vampire lover but, later in the book it shows why she is the way she is and the reason is a nice twist on the story that I didn’t immediately figure out. I really only liked her because I was trying really hard to like her and because she was an author. Only after running into Alex in strange places, and having Caryn and her mother warn Jessica away from him, does Jessica begin to consider that maybe Alex really is Aubrey.

Jessica is instantly stunned by the fact that Alex looks exactly like Aubrey, a character in “Tiger, Tiger. Immediately she meets Caryn, a sweet girl at school who seems to want to help her out of her loneliness. Many passages from Dark Flame paint Fala in an unflattering light, and the vain and vicious vampiress wants Jessica’s blood. Jessica is an unusual teenager because, unbeknownst atwater-rhodrs her classmates, she’s the author of a recently published novel about vampires. Born inshe wrote her first novel, In the Forests of the Night, at age thirteen. Dominique is just, well, she’s strangleable.

And now she is a fucking bad ass vampire, like Risika. Alex, a spitting image for her anti-hero, Aubrey, might very well be a vampire. I did like Jessica’s character but at times I think her “anger” or “angst” was a little overdone. When the pieces click together and Jessica finds out the akelia, will she be strong enough to stay away, to resist the alluring pull Alex has over her?

Adurey is a high classed vampire who has been tracking Jessica for some time. Caryn Smoke would go on to become a charter member of SingleEarth, fighting for redemption and equal treatment rights for all witches, vampires, shapeshifters and werewolves in maelia darker worlds.

The second novel of the series received a generally positive review, especially from critics that review primarily young adult novels. That all sounds well and good, but there was so much speculation on Jessica’s part that it still came through as theory as she was trying to figure everything out.

So what happens when Jessica learns that her dreams might not be dreams?

At school she meets two new students that will change her life.
